Sleep is one of the most important things to do next to eating. The human body needs time to rejuvenate itself for the upcoming day and getting a good night’s rest is crucial. We all have those nights where it seems impossible to fall asleep; especially being in college with friends, work, and other stressful situations that don’t help our bedtimes. Some of the tips and tricks are what we could assume would help calm any of us down enough to fall asleep, but some experts talk about new and interesting ways to help you catch some ZZZ’s. One of the more interesting ideas for getting a good rest is called, “shunning the clock”. Nathaniel D. Watson, the president of the American Academy of sleep, says once you turn the lights out you should not look at the clock until you wake up the next morning. Looking at the clock when you wake up in the middle of the night causes anxiety because it makes you think of how many hours you have slept and have left to sleep.. Doing this interrupts your sleep cycle.
You know that feeling once you put your head to the pillow, everything you didn’t do that day seems to come and haunt you? Well, to get rid of that fear of thinking about anything you need to get done, have a notepad next to your bed. Doctors have said that if you write down everything that you have to do tomorrow, it will help you stop focusing on everything and let you focus on getting a good night’s rest.
