We all have probably seen some of the “fad diets” that come along and guarantee the fastest and easiest way to lose weight. But do they really work? Gisela Telis of The Washington Post looks into some of the most popular diet books.

Telis reviews the methods and reasoning of the paleo diet, the juice cleanse diet, the gluten-free diet and more. She finds that these diets might not be the best way to stay healthy and that diets in general fall short of the benefits of overall lifestyle modifications. They’re also hard to stick to. These books may be best-sellers, but the tips and tricks likely aren’t effective long-term.
