HUMP DAY: LIVING IN A VICTIM BLAMING SOCIETY
In 2015, it can sometimes seem as though we still live in a society where a person who is a victim of a crime is interrogated with harsh questioning. Everything from what the victim was wearing and what the victim may have said to provoke an attack can be brought up in these unfortunate situations. This is especially true for victims of sexual assault. In the attached article, Pretender’s lead singer, Chrissie Hynde, becomes a piece of this never-ending, systemic problem. In the article, the writer discusses how views like this reinforce the rape culture that is still widespread in this country today. The article also touches on the victim-blaming condemnation of survivors.
