LSC STAFF SPOTLIGHT
Kelsie VanBuren- Outreach Graduate Assistant
This is my second year at the center, and I have been working here as a graduate assistant for outreach. I spend time here creating and putting together programs on health topics to educate students on our campus.
I really love working here because I can educate students on health topics that they may not know much about, and essentially be able to assist them in making positive decisions.
This is my fifth year as a student at SUNY Oswego. I completed my undergraduate degree in Human Development, in 3 years. I currently am in my second year as graduate student working on my Masters in School Counseling. I am a member of Chi Sigma Iota Counseling honor society here on campus. I currently am an Intern School Counselor at Mexico High School.
What I like to do in my free time: I really love spending time with my family and friends. I love to travel, my two favorite places to go are Disney World and Cape Cod which I go to both yearly. I also have been enjoying cooking lately, and playing around with recipes. Oh and I also really love shopping 🙂
Suzanne Campbell- Toilet Talk/Blog/Social Media Graduate Assistant
Hi friends. This is my second year at the Center in this position. I love working with my task assignment teams, they always have fresh ideas and I love the creative process of putting multiple minds together to produce amazing and holistic focused work.
This is my second year in the Mental Health Counseling Program, my 6th year at Oswego. I’ll graduate in 2018, as I am a part time student currently. I currently am completing my counseling Internship at the Counseling Services Center here on campus. I love working with college students. My approach involves postmodern therapy, specifically narrative therapy and expressive art therapy. I’m also completing a Trauma certificate.
For fun, going to live concerts is my favorite thing to do. When I’m not going to concerts I’m planning traveling and community service opportunities in other states. My favorite seasons are Summer and Fall where I can grill and go camping and hiking. On my down time I like to watch Rupaul’s Drag Race and Skin Wars.
Trisha DeWolf- Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Coordinator
- I’ve been at the Lifestyles Center for 3 years in the role of Alcohol and Drug Program Coordinator
- This job is great because you meet a lot of great students who are doing great things and I love being a part of their hunger for knowledge
- You never have the same day twice and that’s exciting!
- I was a commuter student, so it’s been great learning about all of the opportunities students have here at SUNY Oswego. There really is something for everyone.
- I LOVE LOVE rollercoasters and thrill rides… the scarier the better!
- I enjoy reading, boating, watching documentaries and spending time with friends and family.
Shelly Sloan- Health Promotion Coordinator
I have been with the Center for 11 years. In addition, I was with the Center for one and a half years as a student-Peer Educator (1 semester) and Intern (2 semesters), (and 2 summers-Peer Educator in Residence), and I worked in the Center in a temporary role the year after I graduated from undergrad. So that makes 13.5 years total!! I am currently the Health Promotion Coordinator.
I love the job that I do because I love working with students; teaching them, and watching them grow and develop.
Professionally, I served on the NYSCHA (New York State College Health Association) executive board for 14 years (serving many roles, from Health Promotion Section Chair, President Elect, President –twice!, Past President, and Communications Chair) and I just completed a 2 year elected term representing Region V (New York and New England) to the Board of Directors for the American College Health Association. I am currently in my second year as co-chair of the Member Development Committee for the Health Promotion Section of the American College Health Association.
What I like to do in my free time: watch my daughter Irish dance, read and spend time with my family and dog. I am the President of the Fitzhugh Park Elementary Home & School Association and volunteer with SAVE CNY.
How I got involved is complicated but if you really want the story, I can tell you. 🙂
