SURVIVOR SERIES: SURVIVING TAX SEASON

It’s likely that you’ve had some kind of income last year and you’re anxiously awaiting to do your taxes to spend that $$$$. First you receive your W-2s from your previous or current employer. For many of us this might mean receiving mail at home and if you’re a struggling college student, you probably had two or three jobs last year, one of them being a summer job perhaps. So if you’re like me and you’re chomping at the bit to get on taxes, the next thing you want to do is find what avenue you will do them through. We are currently bombarded with many websites and banks that are offering to do taxes at a free or small fee.

If you are a do-it-yourselfer you’ll probably go for the free options online. Even Credit Karma is offering to do taxes for free! This is a convenient and practical idea if you want to enter all your tax info from the comfort of your dorm. It shouldn’t take too long overall you will just be reading directions and matching the right numbers to the right spaces. That’s what examples are for!

If you like the help of a professional and don’t mind paying for the service you could give your bank a shot or if you have a family friend or service your family uses to do taxes already established that is also a good option. At times it seems like you’re losing money because of the service but a professional adds that personal touch and if they know you well they can get you more accurate deductions as they work their magic with numbers!

Either way you choose to do it you need to file by April 15th and hopefully you get a return and you don’t have to pay into the state or federal! This return you can use to treat yo’ self to a much deserved Spring Break or maybe you’re saving it because you are so responsible and those bills will not pay themselves.
