TUESDAY RECIPE: THE HEALTHIER BROWNIE

Yes you did just read the words healthy and brownie together in a title. It is possible to indulge in a decadent dessert while also staying a bit health conscious. By no means are these a complete “health food” but they are definitely a much nicer alternative to a typical brownie. The key to these healthy brownies is a secret ingredient that is held within these squares of chocolate-y goodness. This ingredient adds fiber and protein to this treat while also replacing flour, making them gluten free friendly and super rich. Any guesses?

Black beans!

Yes we are going to put black beans into a dessert and yes it is going to be delicious I promise you.

These brownies are vegan, gluten free, and refined sugar free. (and no this doesn’t mean they’re gross)

Ingredients:

1 15 oz. can of black beans (drained and rinsed well)

½ C oats*

¼ C cocoa powder, unsweetened

1 flax egg** (1 T ground flaxseed + 3 T water)

½ C maple syrup or other liquid sweetener

3 T coconut oil, melted

1 tsp vanilla

1 tsp baking powder

½ tsp salt

Optional: chocolate chips or cacao nibs

 

*Gluten free or regular will work the same. Quick oats will blend easier if your blender isn’t very powerful. You can also blend the oats first to make oat flour!

**Can also use regular egg

Directions:

Put it all in a blender (except chocolate chips if using) and blend it! Pour into a greased or lined 8”x8” pan, and bake it at 350℉ for 30-35 minutes.
