TUESDAY RECIPE: VODKA SAUCE
Pasta is a crowd favorite, but the key in any pasta dish is the sauce. This vodka sauce is something that you and anyone you share it with will love. Luckily, this recipe is simple, requiring few ingredients, and quick to prepare. Here is what you’ll need:
- ½ cup of butter
- 1 onion, diced
- 1 cup vodka
- 2 (28 ounce) cans of crushed tomatoes
- 1 pint heavy cream
In a skillet over medium heat, saute onion in butter until slightly brown and soft. Add the vodka and let cook for 10 minutes. Mix in crushed tomatoes and cook for 30 minutes. Pour in heavy cream and let simmer for another 30 minutes.
Timing is important with this recipe—the intervals between steps allow for optimal flavor. If the sauce does not simmer for enough time, the vodka won’t burn off, and you will have a pretty nasty tasting sauce. Add this sauce to your favorite kind of pasta, or vegetables for an awesome dish!
I personally like to add garlic, oregano, and a simple salt and pepper sprinkle to my vodka sauces at home. Try this basic recipe, but have fun with it once you find yourself comfortable making it! Personalizing a recipe is half the fun.
