TWO AND A HALF TUESDAYS: BLAME JANE
Alias: Blame Jane
Dear Two and A Half,
Why do victims of sexual assault often blame themselves or are blamed by others?
Dear Blame Jane,
Unfortunately it is common for a victim to blame themselves, however, it is so important to note that the victim is never at fault for the attack. The negative connotations that usually follow a victim from an outside blamer are: what was he/she wearing? How did the victim provoke the perpetrator?, he/she was drunk, etc. However, victims should never place blame on themselves or allow others to blame them because it makes it harder for them to move on or report the assault. Also, victim blaming is just one of the many examples of the rape culture. We hope this helped you.
