HUMP DAY: REVENGE PORN

Whether faced with the ending of a romantic relationship or a friendship, the last thing on your mind may be how to keep secrets, well…secret. In this digital age, romantic photos being leaked or texts being shared can be a life altering move by people seeking revenge. When these things are sexual in nature, the results are even worse. Often labeled as revenge porn, this growing epidemic needs to stop.

For YouTube sensation Chrissy Chambers, her close encounters with revenge porn was about all she could handle. While she had an ongoing YouTube show with a different sexual partner, her now ex-boyfriend discovered her and decided to take the angle of revenge porn. Being jealous, he posted these exposed videos of Chrissy further exploiting her and invading her privacy. It’s so shameful how someone can place trust in another person and then, after the relationship is over, exploit them.

For members of the LGBT community, this issue can be just as harmful. In addition to dealing with the unnecessary exposure, those in the community can be “outed” and face additional discrimination. From living in areas where these things are less acceptable to being unable to go about their daily life because of something they were unprepared to acknowledge was released, it is important to talk about this issue. Let’s put an end to revenge porn and forced outing.
